This was my first (and only for now) Raskasta Joulua gig and it was also the first time that I saw J. Ahola live. I remember I hesitated about attending this show because I had recently spent too much money on other gigs, but I’m glad I finally decided to go. It was totally worth it. Besides having lots of fun (Raskasta Joulua is such a cool thing!), this gig marked a before and an after. It made me see how unique J. is and I’ve been following his career and supporting him since then.
All
in all, the gig was very good and I liked to see different singers on stage.
The singers this time were J. Ahola, Marco
Hietala, Ilja Jalkanen, Tony Kakko, Ari Koivunen and JP
Leppäluoto. J. opened the gig with the energetic Ilouutinen and set a great atmosphere. All singers performed
individually, but there were also duos and even the Northern Kings came together on stage to sing Pieni Rumpali.
The
only singer I had seen live before was Tony, so everyone else was a surprise in
one way or another. However, the greatest surprise of the afternoon was J. I
had wanted to see him for quite a long time and he left me speechless. What
singer and what a voice! I mean, he has an amazing voice and sings great on
records, but his singing gets another dimension when you see him perform live.
Then you can literally see how he lives the music and how much feeling he puts
in his singing. He closed the show with a beautiful Ave Maria that blew me away. I was completely mesmerized, and even
a girl close to me was in tears. It was very touching and moving, and here is
when I realized that he’s truly one of a kind.
In conclusion, everyone rocked and pulled up a great show (musicians
included!) and the atmosphere was awesome. Now, the moral of the story is that if
you have the chance to attend a Raskasta Joulua gig, don’t miss it (especially
if J. is going to be there! ;)). I know I’m definitely going to repeat the
experience once I have the opportunity to do so.
